First year's operation brings excellent results for APPAC

We just celebrated our one year anniversary doing live theater, movies and musical entertainment at the State Theatre and are very pleased with the results. During the year ending May 31 more than 4,700 admissions were registered for 49 performances (including movies and live entertainment). This is well beyond the projections made in our original business plan.

A great group of dedicated volunteers made the "new" 130 seat State Theatre come to life. They include our Theatre Operations Advisory Committee members and a host of others doing everything from sweeping floors to taking tickets, ushering, tending bar, changing marquee messages, or running movie projectors. We owe them great thanks and could not have succeeded without them.

Our very capable Administrative Coordinator, Janis Wikoff, is the glue that holds everything together. Tony Broadbent has been a godsend. Tony handles our lighting, sound and other tasks with professional acumen and his knowledge and hard work has enabled us to make many improvements to the theatre that enhanced the quality of our productions.

When the year began, we were guardedly optimistic about re-opening the theater because, let's face it, we were a bunch of amateurs swimming in unchartered waters. There were a few bumps in the road, but we have learned quickly how to solve problems and make things operate smoothly.

Community support has been generous and enthusiastic. We thank all who have donated to the Marquee Club and all who have attended performances at the theatre. You have been an essential part of our success and our hope for the future. Thanks also to the Placer Community Foundation for its support with timely grants, and to those who have rented the theatre for events.

Our goal in re-opening the State Theatre was to demonstrate on a small scale what could be possible on a large scale with a 500 seat fully operational performing arts center (which is our ultimate goal). Our first year of operation gives us a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the future. Thank you everyone.
