Ray Obiedo and Mambo Caribe is made up of some of the finest Jazz musicians the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer. With its heavy influence of African grooves, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms and a hybrid of pop & soul, a traditional Latin Jazz sound is always at the core of the ensemble. A unique aspect of the group is it's ability to always incorporate a variety of Funk and R & B groove elements into its various arrangements.

Nancy Thym, a native of Auburn who now lives in Germany, presents a musical journey from medieval music and Celtic ballads to Rock 'n Roll and Blues. She accompanies herself on various harps and is joined by Thilo Viehrig on medieval fiddle and rebec. Together they perform under the name CANTEFABLE, a medieval term for a story, which is partly spoken and partly sung or accompanied by music. The programs offered by Nancy Thym and Thilo Viehrig are a refreshing blend of medieval and traditional music interwoven with stories and dance which transport the listener to far-off times and places.
Appropriate to the Autumn season, they will be performing songs and stories that tell of witches, fairies, demons and devils: a harp player carried off to the Celtic land of the faerie, or a princess who rescues her sweetheart from the clutches of the queen of faerie, the devil thwarted by an artist painting a fresco of the Virgin Mary, or a minstrel who spends the night in a haunted castle. Witches and magic are of course also a favorite theme in Rock 'n Roll songs! Nancy, a folklorist and accomplished storyteller, makes the performance come alive with her renditions of the stories behind each song.
Nancy and Thilo accompany early Scottish and Irish ballads on medieval instruments, lending these songs a very unique new/old sound. Their medieval music ranges from the spherical sounds of German plainchant to the fiery rhythms of Spanish dance tunes. Thilo Viehrig, who studied instrument building in East Germany, built all the instruments based on medieval iconography. And when she turns to Rock 'n Roll, Nancy Thym shows that harps do not solely belong in the hands of angels!
Together Nancy Thym & Thilo Viehrig weave music, song and stories into a spellbinding web of enchantment which transports the listeners into a magical world.
Come to Cinema at the State Third Thursdays of each month.
The Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center began a film series in the fall of 2009, called Cinema at the State Third Thursdays. The initial offering is a series of former award-winning films shown on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. The box office will open at 5:30 pm, 90 minutes before the start of each Third Thursday movie.
Since the movie series will be operating with all-volunteer help, any APPAC member or community individual who might be interested in volunteering on film nights is encouraged to contact the office at (530) 885-0156. Areas in which help is needed include: ticketing, concessions, ushering and clean-up at the end of the evening.
Cinema at the State Film Series
On Stage at the State Theatre
The Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center series of live events, On Stage at the State Theatre, features a classical series of concerts, an acoustic series of concerts, and a series of community events.
Volunteers Needed
As APPAC moves into the live theater, music, and movie productions, we need volunteer help in many areas: concessions, ushers, movie projectionists, office help, construction, cleaning, etc. If you would like to help in any way, please call Janis Wikoff at (530) 885-0156.
